    7. Personal Settings

The settings panel (to open it, see §7.1) is where you adjust your personal account, appearance, audio devices, language, and more. This chapter goes through each tab in its User Settings and App Settings groups. HakoSpace Desktop also has a set of settings that belong only to the desktop app, and they open on a separate screen (see §7.9).

Click the gear icon on the right of the tab bar above the message area (tooltip: User Settings) to open it. The settings panel (titled Settings) is a full-screen overlay. Press Esc to close it and return to the main interface. The tab menu on the left is divided into several groups. The User Settings group has My Account, My Stickers, My Sounds, and About, and the App Settings group has Appearance, Voice & Audio, Volume, and Language.

The My Account tab gathers the settings you can adjust for your personal account:

    • Avatar: Click the Change Avatar overlay on the avatar area to upload a new image.
    • Username: Read-only (set when you register; it can’t be changed).
    • Nickname: You can edit it right there, up to 20 characters. Press Enter to save or Esc to cancel.
    • Profile Banner: Click to upload an image. It appears at the top of your profile card.
    • About Me (your self-introduction): Up to 200 characters.
    • Avatar Border Color: Choose from 13 options: 12 preset colors plus None.
    • User ID: Read-only (used for identification).
    • Email Address: You can change it, and the change goes through verification. A Verified or Unverified badge appears next to it. While it’s unverified, you can click Resend Verification to send the email again.
    • Change Password: Enter Current Password, New Password, and Confirm New Password. The new password must meet the requirement “At least 6 characters, must include letters and numbers.”
    • My Badges: Lists the badges you currently hold. You can change their display order and choose which ones to show on your profile card (hiding a badge doesn’t remove it; it only stops showing it publicly).

HakoSpace lets each member create one “personal sticker pack”, which only you can see and use in messages. You’ll find it under User Settings → My Stickers in the settings panel.

How it works: Click Create my pack → upload images → then use them from the sticker picker in the message box. The server owner sets the storage limit, and the screen shows Quota X / Y. Uploads over the limit are rejected.

Upload limits: A single image can’t exceed the configured limit, only common image formats are accepted, and one message can contain at most a fixed number of stickers. The server decides the exact values, and the screen states them.

If a message you’ve sent contains a sticker that is later deleted, that sticker appears as a “deleted-sticker placeholder.” If the owner or an admin removes your personal sticker pack or a single sticker, you get a notification (it appears in the notification bell; see §8.2).

Like My Stickers, each member can create one “personal sound pack”, which you can play yourself in any voice channel. You’ll find it under User Settings → My Sounds in the settings panel.

It accepts mp3, ogg, wav, and webm formats.

Besides uploading one file at a time, this tab also offers an Upload & Trim tool: you can upload a longer audio file, cut it into several short clips in the interface, and upload them all in one batch. While you trim, the system checks limits such as the size of a single source file, the maximum length, and the minimum and maximum clip length in seconds. Anything over a limit is blocked, with a message.

The Appearance tab gathers your preferences for how the interface looks. You’ll find it under App Settings → Appearance in the settings panel.

Date and time formats (these affect how dates and times appear in messages):

    • Date Format: Choose one of four: YYYY/MM/DD, MM/DD/YYYY, DD/MM/YYYY, or YYYY-MM-DD.
    • Time Format: 12-hour or 24-hour.

    Theme Mode:

    • Follow Server: Uses the default theme set by the server owner.
    • Custom: Pick a theme yourself. It can be a built-in theme, a server theme, or a user theme you created yourself.

Colors: After you choose Custom, click Create Custom Theme (or Edit on a theme you created) to open the theme editor, where you can adjust the colors one by one. This is useful for fine-tuning contrast or the color scheme. The fonts and the background image below are also set in this editor.

Fonts: Choose your own Body Font and Monospace Font.

Background Image: Upload an image to use as a wallpaper. You can then adjust Image Opacity, Blur, Surface Opacity, Title Bar Opacity, and more.

The Voice & Audio tab gathers the settings for your own devices, such as your microphone, speakers, and screen sharing. Choosing input and output devices is covered in §3.5. This tab also has Input Volume and Voice Threshold, plus these advanced items:

    • Microphone Test: Click Test Microphone and speak into your microphone. The level bar moves with your voice in real time, so you can confirm that your microphone works properly. While the test runs, the button reads Stop Test; click it to end the test.
    • Noise Suppression: Turns on RNNoise AI noise suppression (it takes effect after you rejoin the voice channel).
    • Echo Cancellation: On by default. You can turn it off when you use physical headphones.

Push to Talk mode is provided by HakoSpace Desktop (see §10.4), and HakoSpace Desktop chooses the capture engine for screen sharing automatically (see §10.5).

The Volume tab gathers the volume controls for each kind of sound, separate from the device settings on the Voice & Audio tab. You’ll find it under App Settings → Volume in the settings panel. The tab has three independent sliders:

    • System Volume: The volume of system sound cues such as muting, joining or leaving voice, and notifications. It doesn’t affect voice calls or the sound board.
    • Voice Volume: The volume of what you hear in voice calls and screen shares. This is the existing voice output volume, with a second slider placed on the Volume tab; adjusting it in either place keeps both in sync.
    • Sound Board Volume: The volume of sound board playback (both your own previews and what’s broadcast to the channel). It’s independent of the system volume and defaults to 70.

The sound board is a broadcast: every online member plays the sounds they receive at their own sound board volume. Setting your sound board volume to 0 only stops you from hearing them; it doesn’t affect the volume other people hear.

Besides this tab, the sound board pop-up in a voice channel also has a sound board volume slider at the bottom, so you can adjust it right where you play.

To adjust one member’s voice on its own, use User Volume in the member menu. When you’re in the same voice channel as that member, right-click them (long-press on touch devices) in the member rows under the voice channel, on the stage in the main window, or in the member list on the right, and you’ll see it. For details, see §3.1.

You’ll find the Language tab under App Settings → Language in the settings panel. HakoSpace offers two interface languages: English and 繁體中文 (Traditional Chinese). A change takes effect immediately; you don’t need to log in again or save.

7.9 Desktop App Settings (HakoSpace Desktop Only)

Section titled “7.9 Desktop App Settings (HakoSpace Desktop Only)”

HakoSpace Desktop’s own settings aren’t in the settings panel; they have a screen of their own. You can open it in two ways:

    • Click the gear icon in the multi-server sidebar on the far left. Its tooltip is Desktop App Settings.
    • Right-click the system tray icon and choose Desktop App Settings.

The screen has four tabs on the left:

    • Behavior
    • Shortcuts
    • HUD
    • Update

For the details of each tab, see §10 (Desktop-Only Features). The HUD tab holds the settings for the game HUD; see §10.11.

The About tab gathers version and license information. The screen shows the HakoSpace logo, the version number, and the Community Edition label.

Below that, four info cards list Version, Protocol Version, Build, and Edition (Community Edition).

The Project License section has the project’s GitHub link, and the License section lists HakoSpace’s own license. The Third-Party Licenses section lists some of the third-party components that HakoSpace uses and their licenses (for example, RNNoise).

For the EULA and the Privacy Policy, there are two buttons: Read the full EULA and Read the full Privacy Policy. Click one to open the full text on the HakoSpace website in a new tab.
